Alonia: a round, 100m²
wide space underneath old oak trees. The ground consists of
consolidated earth and sand. The place is very suitable for
morning exercises, rituals and dancing. Access to electricity
for music equipment or lighting is installed. Alonia is the
Greek word for the threshing floor. We decided to take up the
idea and thus reconnect with the history and ancient powers
of the island.
Meander: For millenia, peoples
around the world have been creating labyrinths. Looking to the
labyrinth of Crete for inspiration, we build our meander out
of nine tons of sea- and river-polished stones, infusing it
with the power of the earth of Lesvos. Since May 18th, 2004
it is being walked through and danced upon, reconnecting us
with old rituals and traditions.
Village square terrace:
a wall built of natural stones and tiles and with alcoves
and spring, provides protection from the south. A plane tree
planted in 2002 gives living shade already while groups of
chairs invite you to talk, read write or enjoy a glass of
wine and spectacular view of Molivos at night with the lit
castle.
